June 4, 2020 Update


Happy Thursday, everyone.  Lots is going on in Provo this week.  We continue to make progress on the construction of Fire Station 2 and the City Center/Public Safety Building.  We have had a number of protests in downtown, and there are private events associated with the George Floyd incident including a candlelight vigil tomorrow evening in front of the police offices on 300 W.  


CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 1,842,101 cases with 107,029 fatalities.
Utah:  10,813 cases (up 316 from yesterday); 850 hospitalizations; 117 deaths (no change from yesterday)
Utah County:  2,088 cases (up 60 from yesterday); 110 hospitalizations (up 4 from yesterday); 17 deaths (no change from yesterday)

NEWS YOU CAN USE

  • During 2019, Utah County grew by more than any other county in the state with 2.4%, or 14,175 people.
  • Spanish Fork has announced that they will still hold their "Fiesta Days" for those missing our summer festivals. They have mentioned they will be implementing social distancing protocols.
  • Provo's Farmer's Market is going forward, and plans to open this Saturday.
  • The Freedom Festival has postponed their events, however, they have promised "spectacular fireworks show on July 4th, 2020, which will be free to the public and visible to those wishing to social distance."
