Welcome to a new week! Mondays are always a bit busy for me - we generally have our weekly staff meetings on Monday morning and afternoon. It is a good opportunity to plan for the week to come.
As you probably read or heard, the Municipal Council gave final approval to the mask-wearing ordinance in Provo on Thursday by overriding the Mayor's veto. As we mentioned last week, the Mayor doesn't oppose mask wearing and sees it as an important way to slow the spread of the coronavirus in Provo. She just felt like the path should start with education and take that path to its logical conclusion before considering a legislative solution.
The Municipal Council staff has done a great job with explaining the terms of the new ordinance here. If you have questions about the new ordinance and what it entails, this summary is a really good start.
Also, we appreciate all the support from City employees as we have been installing sanitation stations at all of the public entrances to our buildings. I know it has been an inconvenience for many employees, but it is important to keep you and our public safe as we interact with one another.

NEWS YOU CAN USE
- A new study from WalletHub ranked Utah as the 17th highest state for hardworking people. This was based on volunteer work among other factors. Surprisingly, we have a lower average "hours worked" per job per week, and one of the highest for working multiple jobs.
- The brush fire near Utah Lake called multiple agencies out to help, and they were able to help contain the fire.
- Two men from Texas and Louisiana jumped on their motorcycles and traveled 2,000 miles to support a program here in Utah, raising funds for Defend Innocence — a non-profit charity based in Lehi which works to bring awareness to the fight against child sexual abuse. They were able to raise nearly $5,000 on their way.
- Speaking of masks, KUTV did an interesting story on Friday debunking the myths about mask wearing. I thought it was a really helpful piece to help folks understand what is true and what is not about masks.

FUN STUFF
The US Army Band is best known for pop hits like " The Start Spangled Banner" and "Stars and Stripes Forever." But this group from the Army Band known as "Downrange" shows the depth of the talent of this group. This little cover of Andy Grammer's Good to Be Alive is worth a listen. And it will probably even brighten your day a bit.
Have a great rest of your day. We will see you again tomorrow!
