November 11, 2020 Update

It is Veterans Day and a great time to remember those who have served or are serving in the armed forces.  As you may know, we have a son serving in the US Coast Guard.  He is currently assigned to the Coast Guard cutter Waesche  out of Alameda, California and they are currently in Japan getting repairs done on the cutter due to a fire a few weeks ago on board.  In January, Grant will start training for a deployment in the Middle East providing security for oil production and shipping, as well as supporting other coast guard-like functions in the Persian Gulf.  He will be stationed in Bahrain for 18-24 months.  He has been in the Coast Guard for close to 3 years, and plans right now to make it career.  We appreciate all those who serve or have served!

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 10,656,677 cases with 246,983 fatalities.

Utah: 139,720 cases (up 2,335 from yesterday); 6,395 hospitalizations; 678 deaths (up 6 from yesterday)

Utah County:  35,764 cases (up 386 from yesterday); 1,164 hospitalizations; 102 deaths (up 1 from yesterday)

NEWS YOU CAN USE

• Utah grocers are stocking up with supplies in anticipation of the holidays and amid concerns about the pandemic
• For 65 years, the Utah National Guard has done a patriotic concert on Veterans Day.  This year, it was virtual.  If you have a chance, it is a nice moment to remember.  
• Timpview High School is moving back to Phase 1 hybrid learning after hitting the magic case count number of 15.

Today, Mayor Kaufusi:

• Discussed plans for holiday lighting in the downtown area and at Pioneer Park for this year
• Participated in the City's Virtual Veterans Day celebration at Timpview High School
• Met with Customer Service and Public Works on some water metering issues
• Talked with various residents, staff members and neighborhood chairs 

FUN STUFF

I suspect that some will chew me out for posting a Christmas song before Thanksgiving.  Hint - this may not be the only one.  At our home, Christmas music starts shortly after Halloween!  But to get you in the mood for some more snow this weekend, and for getting going on Christmas shopping, this little rendition of The Carol of the Bells by the Piano Guys is a good beginning.
