January 7 2021 Update

Happy Thursday, all.  Isaac and I met this morning for the first time with the new Council chair and vice-chair - David Sewell and David Shipley respectively.  We are excited as an Administration to work with them this year!  And we appreciate our outgoing Council leadership team as well - George Handley and David Harding.  They, along with their very able staff members, are continuing to do good things for Provo and the city organization!

We had a bit of a surge yesterday in Covid cases.  Provo had 195 new cases - about 15% of the County's total positive cases.  It is usually good if we can be below 20% of the County case load (reflective of our population) but we still don't have a full complement of students back in town.  So we will continue to watch the spread in our community closely over the coming weeks.

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 21,259,997 cases with 359,849 fatalities.
Utah: 297,317 cases (up 4,597 from yesterday); 11,578 hospitalizations; 1,359 deaths (up 29 from yesterday)
Utah County:  72,343 cases (up 1,293 from yesterday); 1,946 hospitalizations; 223 deaths (up 1 from yesterday)
