February 4, 2021 Update

Happy Thursday!  Another busy day today.  One of the highlights for me was visiting with two of our school board members - talking about common issues like safe routes to school, the importance of our school resource officers and juvenile justice reform.  I love these rare opportunities to talk about some of the bigger issues and work to find solutions to the problems these issues bring to us collectively.

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 26,398,337 cases with 449,020 fatalities.

Utah:  351,273 cases (up 1,273 from yesterday); 13,697 hospitalizations; 1,711 deaths (up 14 from yesterday)

Utah County:  85,469 cases (up 279 from yesterday); 2,261 hospitalizations; 291 deaths (up 1 from yesterday)

NEWS YOU CAN USE

• Today is National Rosa Parks Day, World Cancer Day, National Create a Vacuum Day, National Homemade Soup Day, National Thank a Mail Carrier Day, and National Optimist Day. So it's going to be a great day today!!
• Amazon announced Tuesday that current CEO Jeff Bezos will step down and Andy Jassy will replace him during the third quarter of 2021.
• There is a bill in Utah that would allow any billboard in the state to go digital and nullify city and county regulations on them that received a favorable recommendation from a House committee on Tuesday.
• The Council approved in a 6-1 vote a proposal brought to them by the administration to change the zoning of property on the West side of Provo in order to bring in a much-needed grocery store in that area.
• Our very own Parks and Rec department was not only accredited, but was ranked within the top 2% of parks and rec departments in the nation. Congratulations to them and their tireless work in achieving this distinguished recognition!

• Met with representatives from the Legal department

Recently I ran into the Zootopia movie again, and remembered this classic scene.  The good news is that our customer service teams - in all departments - could never be compared to sloths!  We are proud of you.
