April 15, 2021 Update

I'd like to do a quick shout out to the team at Provo Fire and Rescue for their Spring Wildland Urban Interface  project.  Energy, Parks, and Public Works departments have contributed by providing personnel and equipment along with Provo Fire, Utah Forestry and Channel 17 in making the project a success. We couldn't do it without their help, and the result is increasing protection to the Wildland Interface.  

Provo Fire hauled over 100 piles of cuttings to the Green Waste Yard and provided sawyers to thin the Lovers Lane's overgrowth. Energy provided trucks-chippers and operators for the big piles. Public Works trucks were used to haul chippings, and State Forestry provided an additional chipper and operator. The WUI team continues to coordinate with Parks for work on the Bonneville Shoreline and Slate Canyon areas. Hundreds of hours for manual labor and equipment use and many more hours the public has put in to increase defensible space around their homes. It takes all of us to do our part, and we are slowly making a difference. The collaboration between Provo City departments and Provo residents mitigates risk in the WUI and helps protect Provo.

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 31,231,869 cases with 561,356 fatalities.

Utah:  391,633 cases (up 456 from yesterday); 15,859 hospitalizations; 2,162 deaths (up 1 from yesterday)

Utah County:  94,052 cases (up 94 from yesterday); 2,556 hospitalizations; 372 deaths (no change from yesterday)

NEWS YOU CAN USE

• Provo's own, Ken Potts, one of two remaining survivors of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, is celebrating his 100th birthday today with some big events from people from all over the nation.
• Provo will be the second location for Raising Cane's coming to the state of Utah. It should be making its way here later this summer.
• A car crashed into BYU's big sign yesterday. The driver was safely removed and it looks like it narrowly missed taking out the cement structure.

• Participated in a meeting with representatives from BYU
• Met with a local business owner
• Held a meeting on the City Center
• Spoke at an elementary school
• Met on bringing new businesses to Provo
• Held a meeting with representatives of the higher education establishments in Utah County
• Participated in a meeting on pedestrian safety
• Met with a few concerned citizens throughout the day
• Wrote an article for the newsletter
• Met with office staff members

FUN STUFF

My grandson would love to do this at our house, but its not going to happen.  But it is sure fun to watch, and the guy's commentary is awesome.
