April 20, 2020 Update

Hope everyone's weekend was great.  My son had his 30th birthday on Sunday, and Julie and I drove up to Salt Lake to see him.  We met on the front lawn sitting in lawn chairs socially distant and everyone, including our four year old granddaughter wore masks.  Wish I had thought to take some pictures!   It sure seems that we are figuring out  how to approximate the old normal while trying to figure out the new one.

Current Coronavirus Statistics

National: 746,625 cases, 39,083 fatalities

State:
Utah County: 498 cases; 26 hospitalizations; 5 fatalities

News You Can Use

  • KSL reports that many car dealers and auto insurance companies are offering cash back, premium credits and more to help residents weather the storm of the Coronavirus.  You might want to check to see what options there might be for you.
  • TestUtah.com has now completed just under 10,000 Covid-19 tests.  This is the group that has been doing the drive through testing at the Provo Towne Centre Mall.  This is really accelerating the number of tests being done in Utah.

Provo Social Media

  • It was National Lineman Day on Saturday.  We really appreciate our Power Department crews who keep the lights on for us.  Take a minute and drop a quick note to your favorite line crew members!
  • A new Conversations with Kaufusi has been posted featuring Scott Henderson and Provo Parks and Recreation.  In these videos, we are sharing with our residents the impacts of the pandemic on city operations.

Fun Stuff

  • These virtual choirs singing music on Zoom or other platforms have become some of my favorites.  This high school choir from California rocked my favorite arrangement of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.  It is worth the 4 minute listen.  And feel a little inspired by the talent of these kids in a tough situation.  Maybe high schoolers (especially the seniors) are paying quite a social price during the pandemic.

Survey

We are now about three weeks into these daily updates, and I'd like to ask your opinion about how to make it better and more relevant.  4 short questions - just a few minutes of time and thought.

We sure appreciate all you are doing, and we are working hard to try to plan for the next phase as we consider how best to begin to gradually return to normal.  We will keep you up to date as things move forward!
