NEWS YOU CAN USE

  • The SpaceX Dragon capsule completed a successful docking at the International Space Station for NASA on Sunday, May 31. This is the first time in nearly a decade that a space shuttle was launched from U.S. soil and the first time a private company launched a rocket with humans aboard into space.
  • The Provo Deseret Industries store is expected to reopen on June 9.  One of the few larger Provo retailers that totally closed during the pandemic, the DI's reopening will be appreciated by many Provo residents.
  • Multiple wildfires burned across Utah on Monday, including the Tabby Canyon Fire burning on Stansbury Island that was 5,000 acres before it merged with another blaze and reached 13,000 acres. It is currently 20% contained.

GETTING BACK TO WORK

This afternoon, the Mayor sent an email to all city employees related to the process of remotely working employees returning to work.  We are excited to welcome our employees who have been working from home back to our traditional workplace.  Questions about the email should be referred first to supervisors and department heads and then to Human Resources.

responding to protests and george floyd incident

Today, Mayor Kaufusi and Chief Rich Ferguson issued a joint statement concerning the protests and other activism related to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.  Employees should know that we always support the liberties of our residents to speak out on public issues and that we are listening to the messages being shared in our community.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any specific questions on the status of the city's work on these issues or anything else related to the current status of protests.

A recent Tonight Show contest between Jimmy Fallon and Jennifer Lopez teaches one very important lesson - never try to win a dance-off challenge when J.Lo is the other competitor.

Have a great evening - and we will touch base again tomorrow.
