August 19 2020 Update

Another hectic day in the Mayor's office.  Lots of meetings as you will see below, and accordingly, I am late again with the blog. [Insert grimace here]

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 5,460,429 cases with 171,012 fatalities.
Utah:  47,521 cases (up 364 from yesterday); 2,832 hospitalizations; 377 deaths (up 8 from yesterday)
Utah County:  9,683 cases (up 107 from yesterday); 450 hospitalizations; 41 deaths (up 2 from yesterday)

NEWS YOU CAN USE

  • Utah had a visit from Walk For Peace 2020, a three-person movement made up of friends who are walking from San Francisco to Washington, D.C., to promote peace and unity in a country beset by protests and pandemic. They stopped in our state to hold a “kindness day” where they handed out bagged lunches to refugees and the homeless, and hold fireside discussions.
  • The Princeton Review has ranked BYU as the number one "stone cold sober" school for the 23rd year in a row. They also ranked 2nd for the most religious school, 10th for packing campus stadiums with fans, and 8th for intramural sports participation.
  • The Utah Shakespeare Festival has announced it's 60th season — running June 21-Oct. 9 next year and featuring eight plays. It will be dedicated to its founder, Fred C. Adams, who passed away a month before the pandemic hit.
