September 2, 2020 Update

Sorry I am so late today.  It has been a day.  Often the day after Council meeting works out that way.

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 6,047,692 cases with 184,083 fatalities.
Utah:  52,822 cases (up 419 from yesterday); 3,134 hospitalizations; 410 deaths (up 1 from yesterday)
Utah County:  11,168 cases (up 104 from yesterday); 510 hospitalizations; 47 deaths (no change from yesterday)

NEWS YOU CAN USE

  • West Nile virus has been detected in mosquito populations in Cache County. Officials state it was found in a mosquito population trapped in Newton, a town northwest of Logan. It was previously found in Salt Lake and Uintah Counties, but no human cases have ever been reported.
  • A Japanese startup company just tested its first "flying car". It is a single seat car, powered by a battery and four propellers and resembles a large drone in appearance.
  • Alpine Technical  Services, a water solutions company, was one of two firms taking part in a pilot program to treat the blue-green algae in Utah Lake. Their efforts thus far have been successful and the company is hopeful that the lake will be free of the toxic algae by next year. Certainly good news for those of us who love to spend our summers at the lake!

THE MAYOR'S DAY

Today, Mayor Kaufusi:

  • Met with the Fire Chief
  • Held a meeting with the Police Chief
  • Met with the City PIO
  • Participated in a meeting with her executive team
  • Met about local businesses
  • Met with Representative Judkins and Council members

FUN STUFF

Another musical moment today.  I am a sucker, as you know, for some of the older sounds of the Big Band era.  This little mashup of Fly Me to the Moon and Come Fly with Me is done by the Shaw Family - a daughter and dad who sing duets together with a piano accompaniment.  This is a newer one with this classic music - and it just warms my heart.

Have a great rest of the day (evening now).

Wayne
