October 5, 2020 Update

Welcome back to work after the weekend.  I hope you enjoyed some time away this weekend and had time to refresh and recharge.

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 7,396,730 cases with 209,199 fatalities.
Utah:  78,723 cases; 4,019 hospitalizations; 482 deaths
Utah County:  21,180 cases; 719 hospitalizations; 63 deaths

NEWS YOU CAN USE

  • The fires in the western half of our nation have set a record this year, burning over 4 million acres in 9 months.
  • The University of Utah has announced they will be playing football this year for a shortened season. Their first game is against the U of A Wildcats.
  • The Vice Presidential debate is Wednesday here in Utah, be sure to tune in. Both sides have expressed their desire to have a different environment than the presidential debate, so hopefully it will be a bit more civil.
  • Today is Customer Service Day and no one deserves a shout-out more than our wonderful 311 department! They field the calls and residents for all of us and we are so grateful for all that they do for us and for our customers.  Nice work, team!

THE MAYOR'S DAY

Today, Mayor Kaufusi:

  • Met with the Fire Chief
  • Held a meeting with the Police Chief
  • Participated in a Utah County COVID-19 Coordinating phone call
  • Met with Mayor's office staff
  • Held a meeting on city communications
  • Held a meeting with the city PIO
  • Met with a representative from the Food and Care Coalition
  • Held a meeting with the Assistant CAO
  • Met with the Deputy Mayor

FUN STUFF

I don't usually get too involved with the partisan politics of the day, but I had to smile and sometimes laugh out loud at Saturday Night Live's sketch on the presidential debate.  Alec Baldwin is amazing as always parodying President Trump, and Jim Carrey takes his first run at playing Joe Biden.  It is a little longer than the average "fun Stuff" I post, but it is worth the watch when you have 15 minutes to spare.

Thanks everyone.  Back at you tomorrow for a City Council day and more!
