April 13, 2021 Update

Today has been a full day of meetings again.  We have covered issues as diverse as opioid disposal, the state's 2030 or 2034 Winter Olympics bid, and the City budget.  And this evening, the Municipal Council is having a special work meeting to talk about their specific budget priorities for next year.  So the budget is beginning to come together, which is always a big deal, and a relief when the final decisions are made.  

CORONAVIRUS STATS

Nationally, the CDC reports 31,076,891 cases with 559,741 fatalities.

Utah:  390,647 cases (up 358 from yesterday); 15,804 hospitalizations; 2,161 deaths (up 2 from yesterday)

Utah County:  93,867 cases (up 83 from yesterday); 2,550 hospitalizations; 372 deaths (no change from yesterday)

NEWS YOU CAN USE

• Today is National Peach Cobbler Day, National Scrabble Day, and National Thomas Jefferson Day.
• Utah State Treasurer David Damschen announced Monday he will be stepping down in order to become the Utah Housing Coroporation's next CEO.  Mr. Damschen and I worked closely together as members of the state's Private Activity Bond Board for 8 years and he will be great in this new role.  
• Per the FDA, Johnson and Johnson vaccinations have halted across the country after a rare clotting case has emerged.

Today, Mayor Kaufusi:

• Held another budget meeting (it's that time of year)
• Met with a local reverend who is new to Provo
• Held a meeting with the City Attorney
• Participated in a meeting on future events in Provo
• Held a meeting on issues facing our residents in Provo
• Met with the CAO
• Participated in a meeting with a large Provo business
• Held a meeting with the finance department
• Met with city council representatives
• Participated in Council Work session

FUN STUFF

So, if you have kids that have been involved in remote learning, you will enjoy this little glimpse into what the reality of remote learning looks like for second graders.  However, truth be told, we might all have Zoom meetings like this if there were no "adults" in the room.
