Well, last evening didn’t turn out as planned. I went to my 5 year old grandson’s soccer game in Spanish Fork. He doesn’t quite get soccer yet. “Why would you just chase a ball all over the grass?” And he spent more time rolling around on the grass and doing somersaults than he did engaging in the game. But that will come.
Just before the game, we learned that Julie’s dad had taken a turn for the worse and that hospice had been called in. We spent the rest of the evening and into the early morning hours with him, with family, and on the phone to relatives. For a while, he was pretty coherent and we did what we often do together - watch a football game on TV (USFL last night). So we don’t know if it will be hours or days or a week, but likely not longer than that. So, please forgive me if my schedule is a little unpredictable the next little bit.
But the good news is that most of the family has been given some time to prepare for his passing. And it will be good to see so many of our relatives in a short time, even if for a sad reason. But Merrill has lived a full life - all 83 years of it - and I have learned so much from him.
Thanks for indulging a little personal reflection. These are moments when we think about bigger issues, and that is where my brain and heart are right now.
