I hope you had a great weekend! Mine was good except for the results of the NFL divisional games this weekend. My Chiefs melted away in the second half and lost in overtime. And my sisters' beloved 49'ers lost to the Rams after a strong effort. So, my dreams of the KC-SF super bowl were dashed. But honestly, this year's playoff games have been some of the closest and most thrilling in recent memory. So, for fans of professional football, it has been a fascinating post-season.

- A bill that supporters say would crack down on “vexatious” public records requesters has passed a Utah House committee, but critics argued it could create a "chilling effect" on the public's right to request government records.
- Utah could join a growing number of states to end fines in the juvenile justice system. Court officials expressed concern over the potential loss of more than $700K in revenue, saying the fees paid for important programs that help youths.
- A new bill unveiled Tuesday would establish unprecedented guidelines for how Utah should respond to its shrinking Great Salt Lake. Lake Mead, Lake Powell and the Great Salt Lake all hit record lows over the summer and into the fall. But unlike the two reservoirs, Utah’s saltwater lake lacks a comprehensive framework for how water districts and the state can try to curb its decline.

HOT-BUTTON ITEMS IN PROVO
Today, I want to introduce a new and exciting opportunity for Provo called the MyHometown Initiative. We will be talking with the City Council tomorrow about it, and wanted to share some information about it with you.
Almost a year ago, the Mayor was approached by representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints about exploring a program the Church was doing in partnership with West Valley City. The city there had identified a neighborhood in the city that had some struggles with zoning compliance, language and cultural differences and other symptoms of a lack of neighborhood resiliency. The Church offered to bring resources to the table like volunteers (church-service missionaries), buildings to house community resource centers, and expertise to combine with the City's resources to engage in a community-building program. The genius of the program is the effort to build community leadership, provide needed resources, and help the residents in these neighborhoods create and retain the tools they need to increase longevity and to create lasting connections.
After quite a bit of research and exploration, the Administration expressed an interest to adopt the MyHometown Initiative for neighborhoods in the Franklin, South Franklin and Maeser neighborhoods in Provo. The Church and the City have reached agreement on beginning the initiative, and the Church is now recruiting volunteers/missionaries for the effort. Local ecclesiastical leaders are also on board and will be integrally involved. The volunteers will bring expertise in areas like construction, landscape design and maintenance, employment, financial management, language learning and more. As I indicated above, while the initiative will certainly improve the appearance and viability of the area, more importantly they will help develop the sustainability and strength of the neighborhood for the long haul.
We will keep you informed as things develop, but this effort will bear some important fruit in the City and for the community at large.
FUN STUFF
So, probably like your kids or grandkids, our littles are enchanted by Encanto. Every one of them from 3 to 16 walk around singing "We Don't Talk About Bruno" which is admittedly a pretty catchy tune. This little video shows the dance moves in real life and how they translated to the animation. This led to a whole new view of the song. Fun music and great choreography.
